The Origin Hybrid Pro mattress boasts a pocketed spring support base, which we always recommend over innerspring for its durability and ability to support each part of your body individually. Pocketed springs are also preferred over full-foam technologies for mattresses in Singapore because they generally allow better ventilation through the mattress bulk and reduce heat retention.
Like all well-designed mattresses, the Origin Hybrid Pro gets creative with its comfort layering, which disguises the fact that it is a pocketed spring mattress – it feels just like a quality foam mattress, but with the durability and support specificity of pocketed springs. The pillow-top feels almost too soft when depressed with a fist or sitting on a spot, but was actually really resilient and supportive to lie down on. It seems like the pillow-top has two different characters depending on the weight profile placed upon it: it forms around and swallows when pressure is applied over a small area, but becomes resilient and buoyant when pressure is applied over a larger area.
We believe this to be due to the creative layering of firstly a responsive latex foam, followed by a pressure relieving foam under that in the pillow-top. When done carefully, the layering of foams with different resilience can create a composite layer that allows the bouncy latex foam to dominate and support the bulk of the body’s weight, while invoking the pressure-relieving properties of memory foam in areas that experience more pressure over a smaller area.
The result is a mattress that forms around the curvatures of a body without the feeling of sinking into a marshmallow. The Origin Hybrid Pro is buoyant enough to allow the shoulders to roll back and adaptive enough so that the spine retains its natural curvatures without feeling excessive pressure anywhere, which should minimize soreness and aching joints in the morning! Hip-heavy sleepers may find that their hips sink just a hair too deep into the extra-plush comfort layer, but not enough to cause discomfort. Because of the plushness, edge support is also somewhat lacking.
Also worth highlighting is how much attention is paid to heat dispersion in the Origin Hybrid Pro’s design. While it’s popular for many mattresses now to incorporate thermally-conductive fabric on the sleeping surface of the mattress, these are often only cool to initial touch and seem more effective in showrooms than they really are. The Origin Hybrid Pro incorporates thermally-conductive “cooling” gels into every foam layer present in the mattress, which should help conduct heat away from your body into the better ventilated spring layers. In the hot and stuffy tropical climate of Singapore, this could be an important factor in how rested you wake up if you sleep in a room without air conditioning!
