How do I prepare my ErgoLush™ Gel-infused Memory Foam Mattress Topper before using it for the first time?
The ErgoLush™ Mattress Topper arrives rolled and vacuumed to keep shipping costs low (even free!) for you. After unwrapping it from it’s vacuum bag, lay out the mattress topper and watch it inflate! It should take between 24- 36 hours before the ErgoLush™ fully inflates.
If you notice an industrial smell with your new ErgoLush™ Mattress Topper, this is nothing to worry about! These are caused by gases that are unavoidably produced as a byproduct of all viscoelastic memory foam products, and are not harmful nor toxic. Because make our mattress topper from fresh memory foam and vacuum-pack them right away, these gases may get trapped within the foam until you open them. SleepWiz does not add artificial chemical scents to mask this.
Because these gases are volatile, they’ll vaporize and dissipate quickly. We recommend unzipping the mattress protector and laying out the mattress topper in a large well-ventilated room for 24 – 36 hours, but away from direct sunlight. You should use a room you don’t sleep in so that the smell does not permeate your mattress or linen.
My new ErgoLush™ Mattress Topper has a smell - is this normal?

The mattress topper comes with a protector. Do I still need to use sheets over the mattress protector?
Yes.
As you sleep through the night, sweat, grime, oil, saliva, dirt, and other bodily fluids get onto your bedding, and they aren’t completely removed with washing! The protector that comes with your mattress topper is meant as an additional barrier against these contaminants to help preserve the hygiene and prolong the lifespan of your mattress topper. You should still employ your own sheets over the mattress and the mattress topper instead of relying solely on the protector.
Is the external protector washable?
Yes, the ErgoLush™ Mattress Topper external protector is machine-washable! Take care not to roll or fold the mattress topper when it is out of its fabric protector – the weight and density of the mattress topper could cause it to split or tear.
Does it matter that that the dimensions of my mattress and mattress topper don't match exactly?
As with all foam products, there will be slight variations in the dimension. This is caused by the a combination of i) the elastic nature of the material, ii) the way it is laid on the bed , and iii) slight expansion / contraction of the foam with temperature. In addition, the dimensions of your mattress are also not exact and depends on the manufacturer. Mattresses may also flatten out with use and age.
Even with the combination of all these factors, the variations in the lengths of our mattress toppers should not exceed 3cm of its stated dimensions when in a relaxed state, which is only about a 1% variation. The difference will not be significant and you should still be able to pull your fitted sheets over the entire complex with no issues.
I'm sinking into my ErgoLush™ Mattress Topper, should this happen?
Yes – in fact, memory foam has to allow you to sink in in order to work its magic! Memory foam is viscoelastic, which means that it responds like a combination of a viscous liquid and an elastic material when pressure is applied. The memory foam selectively softens to allow more give at the hips and shoulders, so that it can contact and support the curved lumbar region. This allows it to redistribute supportive pressure optimally, relax your back muscles, and keep your spine aligned. While the mattress topper may feel ‘soft’ because your hips and shoulders sink in, this ‘softness’ is very different from that of unsupportive mattresses that sink into a hammock shape.
Instead of fighting it, visualize yourself relaxing on a very thick, viscous medium (like wet dough!) that conforms to your body. Though this sinking feeling may take a few days getting used to, you’ll find that you wake up with less pain and stiffness due to the optimized support!
Do I have to rotate the mattress topper?
We recommend rotating and flipping your mattress topper weekly when you change your sheets so that it wears evenly.
Can I layer several mattress toppers on top of each other?
Yes you can, and this is a practice done in many higher-end hotels to give their beds that luxurious feel. If you need help customizing the feel of your bed, do contact our friendly customer service!
Herculean™ All-Natural Latex Mattress Topper
How do I prepare my Herculean™ All-Natural Latex Mattress Topper before using it for the first time?
The Herculean™ Mattress Topper arrives rolled and compact to keep shipping costs low (even free!) for you. The mattress topper should spring out of the box and is ready for use! Do retain the original packaging for the duration of the trial.
If you notice that your new Herculean™ Mattress Topper has a faint smell of fresh surgical gloves, this is nothing to worry about! It is the scent of the natural latex that the mattress topper is made of, and is not harmful nor toxic. Because our Herculean™ Mattress Toppers are packed into their protective wrappers fresh off the line, the scent may be slightly stronger at first, but will dissipate quickly and cannot be detected with sheets on. SleepWiz does not add artificial chemical scents to mask this natural scent.
We recommend unzipping the mattress protector and laying out the mattress topper in a large well-ventilated room for 24 – 36 hours, but away from direct sunlight. You should use a room you don’t sleep in so that the smell does not permeate your mattress or linen.
The edges of my Herculean™ Mattress Topper appear squished right out of the box , is it defective?
Nope, it is only a temporary effect of the shipping packaging!
The Herculean™ Mattress Topper arrives rolled and compacted to keep shipping costs low (even free!) for you. As a result of this compaction, parts of the mattress topper edges may have a squished appearance right out of the box. This is a common effect across all inventory and is not permanent!
Latex foam is a natural polymer made of long chains of molecules – you can think of these as long springs with sticky surfaces! When the latex foam is put in a compacted position for a period of time, these sticky ‘springs’ are bent and their ends may stick. They may remain stuck in this bent position when they’re first released from the pressure after unboxing. On the surface, a whole bunch of bent molecules looks like a squished edge. However, this ‘stickiness’ is relatively weak, so the ‘springs’ (the latex molecules) will naturally spring back into their original straight shape with time and use. This relaxation of the latex foam around the edges into its original shape occurs over a few weeks and is sped up with use. Due to the elastic nature of latex foam, the mattress topper will always want to return to its original shape.
More importantly, this temporary squished appearance is confined to the very edges and will not be felt at all during use 🙂
My Herculean ™ Mattress Topper has some superficial imperfections, how do these come about?
To make the Tatalay latex foam of the Herculean™, air is introduced into liquid organic latex and then injected into a large mold. The whole mixture is then flash-frozen to create its bouncy, durable latex foam.
- During flash freezing, the semi-solid foam may expand such that the partially formed surface folds in on itself slightly. When the flash freezing is complete, this folding looks like a small permanent crease (think of smooth liquid cake mixtures developing creases along the cake tin when baked!).
- Another unavoidable by-product of the flash freezing process is that air bubbles may accumulate at the edges before freezing is complete, and these will look like tiny pockmarks when the latex foam solidifies fully.
These cosmetic imperfections are present in virtually every latex mattress – just hidden under a non-removable cover by many manufacturers 🙂 The reason is that the Tatalay process is designed for producing consistent foam rather than cosmetically perfect-looking foam. These imperfections are only cosmetic in nature and will not make any difference to the durability or support of your Herculean™.
Trimming and discarding every cosmetic flaw will drive up costs for our customers many times over without making the slightest difference in durability and support. Because SleepWiz uses a removable cover (so it can be washed!), these cosmetic imperfections are can be seen when the cover is removed. On the same principle of function over form, we’ll not switch to a non-removable cover just to hide these, because we understand that you purchase our mattress toppers for comfort and not for display 🙂

Tatami Pillow-top Mattress Topper
Do I have to place sheets over my mattress topper?
Yes, you should strap the mattress topper over your mattress before placing sheets over the entire complex. This prevents contaminants such as sweat, oil, and saliva from getting into the mattress topper and preserves its hygiene.
Is the Tatami Pillow-top Mattress Topper washable?
It is recommended that you avoid washing your mattress topper as much as possible as frequent machine washing can cause the filling to ball and lose its crimp, which makes the mattress topper less plush. Replace your sheets regularly to prevent sweat, oil, and saliva from reaching the mattress topper, and wipe down the mattress topper with a wet cloth if you need to clean.
Why is the mattress topper slightly larger than my mattress?
Our mattress toppers are designed to be a few centimeters larger than their corresponding mattress sizes. This is because we want to make sure that your entire sleeping surface is covered in comfort even if the mattress topper shifts slightly when you toss and turn at night! The difference is not significant and you should still be able to pull your fitted sheets over the entire complex with no issues.
